"A DESIGNER IS A PLANNER WITH AN AESTHETIC SENSE." — BRUNO MUNARI
A GAME DESIGNER
Born and raised in southern Louisiana, John Albert Tate (Jack to his Friends) was given a healthy diet of fantasy and science fiction by his parents, and spent most of his life looking forward to being a theoretical physicist until the day he realized he could get paid to do the thing his teachers constantly nagged him to stop doing in the middle of his classes: designing games and worlds. Now Jack seeks excelence in all of his designs, with the ultimate dream of making the perfect multiplayer mobile game.
I have lead two personal projects by the names of Mystic Empyrean: Rebuild, and Pathika: Lost Worlds. In college I was part of the Project Holodeck: Wildskies team for the USC IMD in the School of Cinema. In the summer of 2013 I was hired by Singapore based Personae Studios as their Designer for several projects, predominantly PICS: Towers of Defense, but other apps as well. In more recent years I have worked on projects with an average user payout rate of $4 to $5 dollars per user with several thousand users.
I possess a Bachelor's Degree in Interactive Media, having graduated from the Universit of Southern California's School of Cinema. I have training in Level, Mechanical, Character, and other types of Game Design, Game Economies, Monetization, Game Development Business Structure, Game Production, Game Programming, and Game and Script Writing.
I focus almost all of my efforts in life towards video game design, especially in regards towards new methods of not only making games fun to play, but making it easy for players to justify paying them. I have superb skills in mechanical, level, character, narrative, and other areas of game design, and I have decent programming ability as well. I also have a grasp of the underpinnings of game monetization and internal game economies.
